Five Ways To Mentor IT Employees

There are a lot of people who want to help their employees as much as they can, but they cannot do much if they do not have a plan for mentoring. There are a lot of people who are working in IT and need a little help, and you can give it to them based on this list I have created. I think that all five of these things help a lot, and they have given me good results in the office when you have so many people working all at the same time.

1. Praise All Work

IT is a very hard job, and it can be very frustrating. You should praise all efforts because there are a lot of things that are out of your control and the control of the people who work for you. You are much better off showing them that you appreciate that they tried, and you can use step two when you need to correct things that have been done.

2. Correct Privately

You are much better off sending full explanations of things that need to be corrected. You can show someone who works for you how to best fix the issues that they have, and the two of you can correspond privately over email or talk in your office. I have sent out a lot of tutorials for things that I would have done to employees, and they use those tutorials to solve simple issues. We all win when this happens, and it is so much easier on them than just telling them the job was done badly.

3. Be Progressive

I have to be sure that I am on the cutting edge of the industry. I know for a fact that a lot of people are looking online and trying to see what is going to happen next in our industry, and I am wise to follow their lead. I will feel better knowing that I have asked them to show me what can be done, and it is so much easier for them to approach me when they know that I am open to their ideas. You do not have to do everything they suggest, but you should at least listen.

4. Use The Most Modern Technology

You need to be sure that you are using the right devices in your office. You probably are very comfortable with certain things that you have been using for ages, but you might want to look at what your staff wants to use because that could make your office better. You can mentor people all you want, but there comes a time when you need to work on their level. Your message gets much more clear when you are using the same devices they are used to using. You will not look so old and stodgy, and you will not feel like you are talking to a brick wall.

5. Work Slowly

The technology world moves fast, but making a good environment in your office takes time. You cannot just make people do the things that you want them to do and force them to do them quickly. It makes more sense for you to make changes in the office slowly, and you will be much happier knowing that you have shown everyone what to do and allowed them to get used to it. The office that is comfortable with what you are doing is far more efficient than any other office you could be working in. You will feel like you are furrowing a company that will look so much better, and you will be pretty happy because you can get the in your office indoctrinated to your style of work without making them overwhelmed of like they are just robots.

Mentoring people in the IT world is very hard for many companies because they do not go about it in the right way. They just try to force people to do what they want without thinking about it. You can go much farther beyond that to give people something that will help them be better workers every day. You will feel more accomplished, and you will have a much better office environment.
